How to Prepare for a Roofing Quote
Useful information to gather before contacting a roofer about leaks, repairs, replacement or roofline work.
A useful roofing quote starts with useful information. You do not need to diagnose the defect; describe what you can see and let the inspection establish the cause.
Share the property details
Include the postcode, property type, number of storeys, whether the roof is pitched or flat and any access constraints you already know about.
Describe the symptom
Say whether the issue is a leak, missing tile, chimney concern, overflowing gutter, moss growth, flat roof problem or a roof you think may need replacing. Explain when it started and whether wind or rain affects it.
Take safe photographs
Ground-level images of the roof, gutter, chimney, internal stain and surrounding wall can help. Do not climb onto a roof or use an unstable ladder to get a closer picture.
Ask about the work plan
A clear quotation should set out the proposed repair or replacement, access, materials, waste and any items that could only be confirmed after opening the roof.
Keep the paperwork
Keep the quotation, any agreed scope, photographs and messages together. It makes later questions easier and helps compare like with like.
